Welcome to Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Avam Sanchar Vishwavidyalaya (MCU). MCU is the Asia’s First University exclusively dedicated to Journalism and Communication fields. The University’s main campus is located at Bhopal. Two other campuses are at Noida (Near New Delhi) and Khandwa.
MCU’s mission is to participate in the discovery, transmission and preservation of knowledge and to stimulate the intellectual life, economic and cultural development of India through providing the best human resources in the field of journalism, mass communication and other allied subjects.
The University is committed to preparing its students to work, acquire skills and enlarge their capacities that equip them adequately to live in rapidly changing global environment. We are committed to the highest standards of teaching and research across the broad range of disciplines offered at graduate & PG levels. The students of this University have not only shown their abilities and competence within the country but some of them are also shining abroad as well.
Throughout its history the University has provided a wide range of higher education with a commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and research and which is responsive to regional and national needs.
We believe that students, wherever they are studying, are the reason for our existence. We also believe that professional care for students is part of the responsibility of a University that claims to provide students with a reasonable chance of success in their studies.
This year we have decided to upgrade and update our course content, level of competence and introduce some new inputs in various courses. With this end in mind a massive exercise of revising the curriculum has been taken up by the respective Board of Studies of concerned teaching departments. After obtaining the approval of the Academic Council, the revised curriculums shall be introducing from the next academic session.
Our prestigious research project “Indian Language Journalism in Independent India” has made further headway in the year 2007. Eight volumes of the research project have already has been published which were released in a function held in New Delhi in July 2007. Work on two ambitious dictionaries - "Hindi Patrakarita Shabdkosh" and "Hindi Patrakarita Sandarbhkosh" is also in progress. In addition the University has also decided to bring out 100 monographs on eminent Editors of pre and post independent India which will be immensely useful for Journalists and research students both.
The year 2007 has been significant for our UTD in Bhopal and the Noida campus also. In Bhopal all the five teaching departments which were scattered in the many buildings have been shifted to our newly acquired campus "Vikas Bhavan" whereas Noida campus too has been shifted to a new building providing comfortable accommodation for students and faculty both.
We are committed to provide quality journalism to future media persons who are ready to join Mass Communication to Corporate Communication. I am confident that with the help of our highly creative faculty members, media professionals in the country and the senior media academicians, this University will be able to serve the aspirations of our students, media industry and 58 associated institutions (for Media Courses) throughout the country, working under our umbrella.
With great pleasure and gratitude I may mention that the scheme of association of Study Institutes has entered into its twelfth year. The number of Institutes stands at 542 (as on 31.12.2007) at present which are located throughout the length and breadth of the country, including two in Nepal.
We welcome feedback from students and teachers (at UTD or from its associated study centres) on any issues that affect their ability to be successful at the University. Students who have problems associated with their academic progress should, in the first instance, consult their Coordinators within the Faculty (at the UTD and to the centre in-charge at the associated study centre) in which they are enrolled. When necessary problems should be brought to the attention of the Head of Department or, through proper channels, to the Rector and to me.
I wish all students well in their studies, and I am confident that the time spent at MCU can lay the foundation for professional and personal satisfaction. Your undergraduate or postgraduate program will be only part of a life-long learning experience. MCU through its commitment to providing flexible learning opportunities can be part of that life-long process and I encourage you to retain your contacts with us and to make use of us as a natural part of your ongoing personal and professional development.
Wishing you all a happy learning in the new year.
